Broccoli dynasty hands over James Bond franchise to Amazon

A James Bond shake-up has "stirred" the film industry after Amazon announced it has taken control of the spy franchise.

The long-serving British-American heirs, Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, said they would be stepping back after they struck a deal to hand over creative control to the tech giant. The Broccoli dynasty agreed on a new joint venture to co-own James Bond intellectual property rights and give Amazon the power to move forward without their approval with the creative reins.

Financial terms were not disclosed, with the deal set to close sometime this year.

Broccoli and Wilson have reportedly clashed with Amazon over the direction of the franchise, leading to a stand-off which froze development.
